Fruit Opera
2025
Fruit Opera is a multidisciplinary installation that weaves together stop-motion animation, an operatic musical composition, and interactive biodegradable sculptures made from bioplastic—an organic material that melts and dissolves over the course of the exhibition.
Inspired by the French children’s show Soupe Opéra (1991–2000), Fruit Opera pays homage to the richness of fruit biodiversity while offering a critical reflection on its potential disappearance. This contemporary reinterpretation traces the history of fruit from the early trade routes of the 18th century to a dystopian future where fruit is no longer grown but manufactured entirely through synthetic processes.

Drawing from the visual language of European still life painting—where fruit symbolizes both abundance and the transient nature of life (memento mori)—the installation stages a living, decaying still life. Past fruits interact with speculative future fruits in a surreal performance of transformation, both physical and musical.

The project critiques the standardization of taste and form through monoculture and genetic modification. It poses urgent questions about the future of nature, biodiversity, and our increasingly manufactured relationship with the organic world.
